DSYARD... It depends a lot on what type of grass you have. but 2.5" for any grass seems on the low side... But, if the grass looks good and is not stressed by cutting at that height, than go with it... As far as striping, the grass will stripe better the longer the grass is... Try to figure out the pics and post some...

Home made lawn striper

This is one of the best and informative posts I have seen. I am going to Home Depot and buy all of these materials right away. You know why? Because, I already have the rollers and when I called Big League Lawns today ans asked to buy a kit without the wheels, I would have had more luck getting to Mars on a Hot Air Balloon. The did not know what to think of someone making their own and how long it would take to get all the parts together? WTH??? Don't you do this every day? Get all the parts EXECEPT THE WHEELS and tell me what it would cost! Oh My God, this post will help me out 100% Thank you!

Fyi,

I have a 20 year old Honda riding lawn mower and I drag log chains behind it. This is what mine looks like.

Nice. Here's my 25 year old cub cadet still doing stripes, with no stripe kit.

After looking at your stripes, you may want to make one for that cadet... They look Descent but don't stand out enough for me... Could be the angle of the photo..
