Indexing valve vs. traditional manifold

I've recently seen an indexing valve where multiple zones are connected to one indexing valve. What are the pros/cons of indexing valves and how do you wire them to a controller?

Don't even think about indexing valves. They live in warm/hot climates and never get winterized.
