ztrac charging issue
757Ztrac. In the past, the charge light would come on for a couple seconds after startup, then stay off. Now it comes on when the blades are engaged. It also comes on with the headlights on. (add on accesory from JD). At idle I get 12.3v at the battery.light is on. About 3/4 throttle, the light goes out at 13.9 v. t idle backprobing the 2 white wires at the regulator, I get 12.4vac. at 3/4 throttle when the light goes out, 22vac. I'm thinking the regulator... Any advice?

Those voltage readings were with no electrical load. Just noticed, if you are on the seat the light will turn off unless you drop below about 1/2 throttle. Sit down, light off, stand up, light on.

Can anyone tell me if the stator is producing enough ac voltage? 12.3 at idle, about 27 at full throttle. Any advice appreciated.

I did some measurements on my scav with Kohler ch25 to compare. I get 16 vac at idle and 36 or more at wot. I'm assuming from this that the stator in the Kawasaki is going bad. Is there a anything else that could cause this? I checked the battery by unhooking the cool wires and cranking for 15 sec or so. It didn't slow down so I assume the battery is good.

Bashby,
Unplug the stator from the regulator, Test ac output like you did on your Kohler right on the stator plug. You should get the same ac voltage reading on the Kawi, 28+ volts at full throttle. Anything less is likely a faulty stator BUT, I've heard of weak flywheel magnets causing reduced output as well......
