It does have one and I shortened it's height (where the carbon filter sits) by about 4 inches when I removed the (useless except to increase the cost of the mower) rollbar it was inserted into. Although it seems like I would have seen this problem more frequently than just in the last few weeks if that were the source of the gas? I did all that right after I bought the machine 8 months ago.

To be honest, I'm not sure. It just came to mind as another possible route for leakage. I wasn't aware it just started happening. One thing, I wouldn't pinch off the fuel lines if they have green lettering. (and they should). Supposedly they have a liner in them that can collapse. Never tried it myself.
