The HS46 and HS56 are better designs, and a lot lighter feeling than the HS45 than even their 2lb or so less weight would indicate. I have the HS45 and I am not just knocking it because I have one of the others and need to feel I have the best unit around. The HS45's do have an anti vibration system, but it doesn't work all that great IMO, and the darn thing is kinda hot to use for long periods of time. The cutter bars on the 46 and 56 are also a lot better design.

I always try to buy alittle more than what I need. That is why I choose the 56. The cutter bar on the 56 is alot better than any other stihl hedge trimmer. Part of the 81's are plastic for weight issues I'm sure. Comfort is important too.
