1. Can I lap this valve to reseat it or do I need to get a new valve? 2. Do I need to take the head to a machinist to get it machined out so the new or old valve seats at the correct angle? Now as for the tappets/lifters where the push rods go in. The intake would moves just like you stated ricky86. But the exhaust would not, so I put a little force on it and it started to move(while I was rotating the flywheel). I took alook into the block where these push rods connect on the tappet/lifter( they looked like brass seats for the push rods) they both are out side the block. IS THIS THERE CORRECT PLACEMENT? I compared the brass looking tappets/lifters to my fh500v and on the fh500v you can't even see this brass looking tappet, and the push rod on the fh500v is going throught the block and not protruding like they are on this fh680v. Now the questions: 1. Are these tappets/lifters in there correct postition? If not can they be forced down into the block? How? 2. What would make these tappets/lifters lift out of the block. I'm guessing the cam is pushing them out. If this is correct how do I correct this cam problem? |

The lifter should move smoothly. The ex should work exactly like the intake. As I stated, while rotating the engine you should feel it rise, then fall without any force other than the resistance the oil gives. I can't say what causes it, but have seen two engines do it over the years. I have never disassembled those due to the big hrs on them. They were replaced due to a boatload of other problems, but I get the feeling the mystery might get solved soon
