When you build a reputation for integrity it's easier to upsell customers on added services, get good references, and hang onto good clients. I'd rather keep a customer year after year than to make a few bucks "right now".

But like I said before I'm in a small market. Reputation is important here. Maybe you're in a large market with high turnover.
Everyone has to decide what they have to work with and how to approach it.

Amen and amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have installed 27 irragation systems this season so far and unrolled about 2 miles of netafim. Instead of takeing the time and risk recording silly conversation expand your capability.

if you need the contract, remember you you deal in a service, you explained why you shouldn't but they choose to have you cut it so cut it, if anything comes to a head remember that's why you pay for insurance. if you don't need the cash Quit no sense stressing over it. there's a saying if you don't like some one stay away from them, move on to those who you do like.

I lost a business account last year because I refused to cut them in the severe drought we were in.
They (well the office director who calls the shots) wanted it cut.
The place had no irrigation and was toast, I mean dry white toast. Think 20 days in a row of 90+ temps.
fast forward to this year, and right now we've entered a dry spell, first time of an otherwise good turf season.
I haven't changed, and once again I'm backing off and slowing the rotation.
MOST people get it, some don't.

Well, that client is gone. I have two landscape jobs coming up that will both put more in my pocket than I ever made from that person. I have also replaced the hole they left in my budget 3 times. Why? Because people know I do good work and I know what I'm doing. One person doesn't hurt my feelings, you gotta trim out the dead weight to make room for the new growth.
