I need to learn that "knee high" (as stated above) yards means the owner has some sort of issue. It could be that they're cheap, hard to get along with, lazy, or just don't care. Some of them probably get a kick out of trying to get something for hardly nothing. I have to say that they're pretty slick. They come out grinnin, pointing at my mower, nodding, and complimenting my work to try and butter me up so i can take of their yard.

With the rising price of gas and diesel, this past spring I looked at all my accounts and got rid of the ones that were to spread out. Just can't make money with the crew riding in a truck for 25 minutes. I now am centralized instead of being spread out all over. The routes get finished faster and use less fuel. So now I look at the lawn and the location, crappy lawn or to long travel time I turn it down. Works for me. In the spring I turn away a lot of work. Just don't have enough hours in a day to finish and don't want to add any more employees.
