All of my accounts are contracted. My customers pay for 1 weekly mowing every week until October 1st even if the grass doesn't need cutting. It is the customer's job to keep their lawn watered, which they do. I don't have a lot of customers yet but the ones I do have are great. One of my customer always pays 1 month in advance for my work performed. He just payed me for the month of August today when I was cutting his lawn.

Why is that? So you can mow it each week? Sounds rather selfish to me.

In the real world the customers are not going to pay if they THINK the grass doesn't need mowing. And have them under contract doesnt work when we are in drought times. And you can expect them water all you want but once you cut a dry yard and leave tracks you will understand.

I know other lawn companies do the same thing. my mentor has been in the business for 16 years and that is how he does it also.

In cool season zones, it is not only the lack of water that causes cool season grasses to go dormant. High temps can do it even when water is somewhat plentiful.

You can't charge extra because it takes you twice as long to do the job because you have crappy or outmoded equipment.

And, if they don't pay, put a shovel upside their head.
