I've owned both. First had the BR600 and thought it was great until it had valve/camshaft problems after 1 1/2 years. Then got the Shin and would never go back to the 4 stroke again. Had the Shin going on 3 years and not one problem mowing 60 lawns per week solo. As for power, the Shin beats the Stihl. Not by much but you can tell the difference.

Do not be fooled, there are a few advantages to a 4 stroke design but to many negatives. If you can run a correctly designed and made 2 stroke all you have got to do is change the rings before they get sharp and change the piston as needed and run good gas along with keeping all dirt out of the engine anf they will run and run and run.

No comparo 2 strokes are overall much better than 4 strokes for hand held apps.

I run Shin for my personal company equip, and my church has Stihl 4 mix edger/weedeaters. I am in charge of the church mowing (all volunteers) and have been trying to get our admin to buy shin because of the weight issue and the 4mix has no slow speed to it. We do have one stihl pro that is 2 cyc, and it is actually lighter and has slow to medium throttle response that the 4mix doesn't. That being said, we have all echo blowers. (so do I!)

I have both a 4-mix Stihl weedeater and a pole trimmer and would never buy another 4-mix. Lots of power but just so heavy. And the weedeater can do some real damage in the hands of a helper.

I hate 4 mix! I have a 4 mix stihl pole saw and it is always a pain to crank and just feels locked up for some reason. On the other hand I have a Shindy blower and it hasn't missed a beat yet.. I will be buying 2 stroke from now on.

That's a valve adjustment issue. Was talking to my dealer the other day about that.

I've personally have fallen in love with the 4cycle/mix engines. For me it's the torque at low speed that I like, and the over-all sound that seems a bit quieter than a 2cycle.

I did just get a new Shin backpack blower with the hybrid 4 motor. Basically it's a 4mix. I'm in love with it. Haven't used it enough to break it in yet though.

The new Shin 4mix motor is supposed to be superior in design over the Stihl version. The path of the fuel is more efficient along with smoother operation. Comparing designs, Shindaiwa might have gotten the 4stroke motor right. Now, as long as Echo doesn't start dumbing down the Shindaiwa products, I might switch everything over to them. My dealer was saying that Echo intends to keep the quality up on the Shindaiwa though, but that will be left to be seen.
