Bid for 5500 Square Feet of Mulch????

I looked at a job today the house has a little over 5500 sq. ft. of beds, with 1058' of edging. She wants everything edged all new mulch. About 150' around pool, beds have stone. I have to rake stone back edge (Brown Bed Edger) and pull stone back. She will take care of weeds in bed. I figured 70 yards of mulch at $50.00 per yard installed. Should I charge more for edging on a $3500.00 mulch job? Thanks Tom

depends on how long the edging will take.... as generations of b4 & today worlds has heard time=money.....
does the electrician charge more after running electricy in 10 rooms and when it comes time to hoking up electric sockets, does he do the sockets & switches for free? i think not, just think about it and answer it yourself.....

First of all, I would estimate 55 yards not 70 for 5500 sq ft. (1 yard per 100 sq ft @ 3" depth) Then I would charge $60.00 per yard installed with edging done. $3300.00.
Just as a reference, if you paid $20.00 yard for your mulch. You would come out $100.00 ahead and also you would save all the labor for the extra 15 yards. Also $3300. sounds better than $3500
Just what I would do...

I spread mulch 4 inches thick 80 sq. ft. per yard and thats what the home owner wants. For 70 yards my supplier says will give $3 per yard discount and deliver for free. I really don't get caught up in what sounds better. My price per yard is my price I just thought I would get some input on the edging part I think $3800 sounds good. Big house with big pool and they got a referal from another customer of mine.

charge extra for edging call in a mulch blower make more money get the job done faster w/ less material (bill out for full 70 yards) bingo bango you only had to edge and you made some good money while your crew was off working on a more profitable job!!!!

I think Groundcover is onto something with calling in a blower. Make more for yourself by having your employees doing something else.

What's your cost for mulch? If it's $10/yd then $50 installed is okay. If it's $20/yd.. then $60. I would charge extra for edging and pulling back the stone.
