$40 per yard too much for installed mulch??
I am new in the business and have not yet done a mulch installation. I measured a job last night and called with a price. I is a 12 yard job and I quoted $40 per yard. The total of $480 sounded kind of high but I went with it. She was amazed to say the least. It was way too high for her. Can any of you tell me what a decent rate is? I can buy the mulch for $15 per yard and can haul about 5 yards at a time. I am in central VA if it helps. I want to give her a fair price and it is in a nice neighborhood that I do not do any work in at this time. I would like to get more work there. Any advice would be appreciated.

Way to low!
I go around 70.00 on average. Depends on site conditions as well as prep work may make it higher.

I've had that a few times this year 1 was a 6 yrd job I charge 50.00/yrd + delivery I think the job with edging and weeding came out to be around $450.00 and the guy I thought was going to have a heart attack! He then said no thanks I'll get someone else, I said ok sir thank you for the opportunity. I drove by just out of curiosity and he had someone else do it all right mulch all over the driveway, mulch in the grass about 3-4 inches no edges, etc. I saw him again last week and asked him if he had found someone yet he said I sure did I asked him how much? He said he paid $265.00 for the whole job, I said wow thats a great deal! Mumbling on my way back to the truck "Dipsh_t it looked better before he touched it."

I get mulch at $28 per yard. I started my pricing at $55. I was getting quick replies of "YES!" so I raised my rates. I am at $80/yard delivered and installed. Still getting the "YES!" from customers, but don't want to press my luck I think $80 is just fine. From what I have learned just play with the numbers and see what the market will bare.

$50 per yard installed, up to 15 yards.
$45 per yard installed, after 16 yards or more. This is for lawn contract customers only. Otherwise add $5 to $10 per yard depending on the current condition of the beds. Also $.75 a foot for lawn contracts with edged beds from last year' $.85 a foot for lawn contracts with no edged beds from last year $1 a foot for anybody else and I don't care what the beds look like.
