Thinking about starting a mowing company

I'm thinking about starting a lawn mowing company. I'm 19 years old, on summer vacation from college, and can't find a job anywhere. I am going to be purchasing a mower this week, and I need to know what prices I should charge so I can compete with the big dogs. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

if your competing w/the big dogs u need to "compete" legally and legit... mowing buiz. looks like alot of fun & and easy way to make some benjamins in a few hrs but its not that easy... theirs so many indirect & direct variables you need to plan out, also insurance & lc.

What are you going to do once you go back to school in the fall? Lawns grow in Michigan into november if the weather's right. Who wants to hire someone that's not going to be around the whole season?

Hi Opetreezy4sheezy,

Do you have any friends in your area in the business? Could you ask them what they charge? Or have any neighbors that have these services you could ask how much they pay?

Hey opetreezy,
I am in Dearborn and have had my business for a few years now. I also am in college. It is a great business for younger kids. Especially not having to answer to a boss. The one problem is going back to MSU at the end of August. What I might do is have my clients sign a contract. I would then sign over my accounts to another company. With that contract, that would guarantee our service next summer. I may be able to cut a few driving home on the weekends, but that might be more headache than it is worth. Just throwing ideas out there.

Isn't that area already saturated with kids that want to "mow some lawns and make some money"?
