I have been thru most of the mowers on the market and agree with the last two posts. Any mower is only as good as the dealer support. Mowers will break down and you need to get back up quick, you do not want to wait for a fuel pump from Kohler, or a starter, belts, hoses, pulleys, and yes they do go all of them. Used to have all Scags, tigers and hydro walks. Until I had a problem with my Scag dealer, A blown head gasket on a new 61" Turf Tiger machine that had 8 hours on it.(2days down) Then again at 45(2 days) and 70 something( one week). New motor after 3x. Less than one day out with new motor, blown hydro pump. Idiot dealer did not flush entire hydro system so what happens.... wheel motors go next. Now the mower has cost me no extra money but I lost alot of time, Dealer was 30 miles from our shop. Demo was never available. They would not give me a new mower. At that time I had 8 Scag mowers( 7 years ago). Now I have one, a 52 hydro scag with a 16 Vanguard bought new in 96, Still used everyday. Will never look at a scag again. All other mowers now are Dixie, Walker and Bobcat walk behinds,11 all together from same dealer, great place will fix my mowers on the trailer most of the time.
God sorry about the long post just hit a nerve with that dealer thing

I love my wright mowers. I own 4 and will have more to come. (which is kinda stupid because we only have two guys running all of this equipment)

The wrights will take a pounding. We dish out a ton of punishment to ours and they just keep running.

I'm a solo operation with one machine so dealer support is critical to me. I bought a Great Dane because it has hydrostatic drive without belts, was not as expensive as a Scag, built better than a Cub Commercial and the dealer gave me all the attention I needed. I would have bought an Exmark if the dealer could have answered my questions! I agree with those who advise you to invest in a dealer instead focusing on brand.

Scag, Scag, Scag. No wait maybe Exmark. No, then theres Hustler and Bobcat. Oh and can't forget about Toro, JD, Great Dane, Ferris, Dixie Chopper, etc. etc. etc. There are a lot of great ztr's. It is all about what dealer is in your area and for me that is Hustler or Scag. Unless of course you are a whiz mechanic that can do everything, plus keep a spare of everything.

I used to use Dixie Chopper but had problems with the decks getting banged up to bad, and they just didnt have a great cut to me. I started using ExMark and have been very pleased over the last few years. The new generation Exmarks are really nice. Only two greese fittings on the whole mower, I think. I use some smaller ones and some of the bigger ones and they have a great cut and low maintenance. We put alot of hours on them and you dont need to be fixing them all the time. I manage some golf courses as well and at times have used the exmarks to cut the roughs when my john deere rough mowers were down. The new Ex's have a very comfortable seat that is on swivels(sp). It makes the ride very smooth. Although I hardly get on a mower any more I do try them out some after buying them. I would recomend the exmarks for commercial use.

The better question to ask would be what commercial mowers are not any good. List will be much shorter and you will know what to stay away from. But then again some might get a lemon and swear the whole line off. But asking what is the best you are gonna get a million opinion and all will be right to the right person.
