Rain, rain where are you?

Sitting on my deck, drinking a beer. This would be great if it is winter here in chicago; but its July. Anybody else feel a little depressed about lack of rain? Any suggestions on what to do during stretches like this?

It rained buckets on me today. More again tomorrow and on Friday. I have a lot of customers that do not like to have their wet lawns mowed. Had 3 today that did not want it done! Oh for a couple of sunny days in a row!

Mowing wet grass does stink, but when you are mowing about 25% of your lawns over the past few weeks, you would gladly deal with some wet mowing conditions. As dry as we are here, it is hard to be sympathetic to those with too much rain. No rain in forcast for over a week to boot!

This is only my 2 year in the business and I always hated it when it rained alot. I'd complain about mowing in the rain, having to catch up on the weekends, having to double cut... Well I was completely wrong! I'm in northwest Ohio and although we did see a little rain the past week, everything is dead in our area. Some of my accts I havn't cut in over two weeks because its hasn't grown an inch. I'm really going to start feeling the pinch if something doesn't happen fast. Drought or monsoon.... I'll take monsoon any day.

We had a dry spell here about 2 or 3 weeks ago and we finally got a couple of thunderstorms that dropped about 3 inches of rain last week which kicked the lawns back into better shape ....... all my commercial accounts and some res accounts ( very few they wont stand for this ) pay whether we cut or not , like a retainer fee which more than makes up for the slow cutting or double cuts in spring .

Unhappy Dry in Austin

Its' the same down here in central Texas. Thirty four straight days above ninety without rain. Today we hit 104. I have a couple of clients that have asked me to stop cutting, not because their lawns have stopped growing, but because they are dead! These idiots never watered. Now they are going to have to re-turf in the fall because all they're going to have at the end of summer is dirt. Thank God most of my customers are not like that.

It really sucks when a weather pattern like this takes roost. My only advice for those of you in the dry areas - find clients with sprinkler systems.

Take Care,

Paul
