Plug that wire back up. Unplug the double plug with the two yellow wires on the regulator. Put your meter on ohms, On the plug end with the two black wires (not the two yellows going to the regulator) connect one test lead to one wire, The other lead to the other wire. now look at your meter and it should show a closed loop system. post back your findings.

I have using a digital for resistance. Appears to read about 0.4 on ohms but with the Triplett 310 set on 1000 it goes to 0 which to me would indicate a hard short. Shouldn't I be getting some kind of resistance?

Yep. That's what I get. So I know from that the stator is not open. Seems like I got a 12.5v reading with the engine running looking back toward the stator but was yesterday and I've took so many readings and didn't write them down and now I don't remember.

If this test shows a open circuit the Bandit is the voltage regulator. A Quick Recap; Post # 20 This is how to test the charging system to see if it's working. Post # 22 Tested the mower wire harness for any problem, checked o.k. Post # 26 & 27 Tested the staror for open circuit and short to ground o.k. if not shorted to ground. There is no test for the voltage regulator, One must perform the above test procedure and eliminate each item as being the problem, Once completed you are left with the voltage regulator as being the problem.

LOL On your Kohler the purple wire in the center of the regulator plug will be the test point for the mower harness and the two outer white wires for the stator. Just a heads up; I've seen the magnets come un-glued on older CVs and stick to the stator without damaging it, Thus testing good and with the mower harness testing good a new regulator installed and still no charging. One more, If the need arrives to pull a Kohler flywheel off never use a hammer use some type puller. Any shock to the flywheel could knock the magnets loose if they weren't already.
