16 Y.O. w/ Landscaping Business

Im 16 and do landscaping for 8 residential accts. Landscaping is awesome, there is nothing better than being outside all the time instead of stuck behind a desk all day at work, or in my case school. How did all of you guys get to be such a sucess when you started off?

I was you 4 years ago. Best thing is to find a mentor. Mine had been doing this for 30 years. Just ask a lot of questions. You learn a lot on the job. I am currently mentoring a 16 year old. He is buying some of my older equipment to get started.

O yea, spend all your free time on here. Most of us are addicted to this site.

after posting the first time i noticed the large and vast amount of "high dollar" equipment you had all the Redmax and husquavarna, 1. where did u get all this from what means of income did u use to get it 2. i ask this only b/c i noticed that u have 3 blowers 2 trimmers, b&D hedge trimmers that must either be battery operated or electric (never seen anything made by b&d that was gas???????????, a crapsman mower that prob aint worth nowhere the used value of the husq. new, let alone the redmax used., a spreader.. .for what your not licensed.... and the mantis yeah its a good tiller but good luck aerating a 5,000 sq.ft.lawn........

Not trying to knock you or anything i started out with far far less than that when i was your age, but man...... all the things 3 blowers .. for what one in each hand and then a backup? the trimmers?.. same thing.... just doesnt make much sense to me......

ok here goes

congratulations on doing something you like, not many adults can say they like t work, one thing, don't work too much, man what id give to be 16 again, work but make sure you enjoy being a kid too...

responsibility, your responsible far any accident, and they so happen, you need liability insurance and cant get it at your age, ask dad mom, brother uncle, someone to but the business name in till you get older, registure your business with the state and county, open a business checking account.

Then you need to keep good record so you can pay your taxes, and do everything legally, if you don't, that makes you a criminal... and im sure you a nice guy so that doesn't fit you right....

equipment , after all those other things, make sure and save money to put back into your business and upgrade equipment, and be smart, why would a solo grass cutter need three trimmers, one backup yes....

have fun and good luck but like you where told, until you do these thing, you do not have a business, you a kid getting some experience but flying under the radar of the law, and i am sure you wouldn't want that, being that your probably a great guy....

the new kindler and gentler dave....
