New tractor

Just closed a deal on a new Kubota L48, will be delivered on Saturday! I've been dreaming about owning a tractor for two years and I can't believe I'm finally getting one.

Originally considered the B21 but after borrowing a friend's MF1240 I decided I needed a more powerful machine for land clearing (we have 4 acres, with about 1000 alders to rip out).

Anyone have any hints/tips on using this machine?

Will post a photo at the weekend once its delivered.

Thanks

tractors

Go easy at first, work in a flat open area until you know what you are doing. Never, ever get off the machine with the pto engauged! I have made a small fortune on tractor services the last six seasons!

Just been delivered! Here's a photo.

Yes, I plan to take it easy for a while before tackling any of the bigger jobs.

Nice rig man. Good for you. I'm very sad that it's not in my yard. (YET) Ive been lookin for on also. KIOTI dealers are popping up everywhere up here. They seem alright. alot cheaper then Kubotas. Now dont hold out and please tell how much? Just want to now how the prices are on the west coast as for here. Thanks man I know they are running a good finance on them.

I must admit when it was unloaded I thought 'wow - is it too big?' but after using it I'm glad I didn't get a B21 - would have been too small.

$39350 + tax for the tractor ($43k altogether)

The dealer is awesome (Schulten's Equipment in Burlington, WA) - threw in the backhoe bucket quick release, stabilizer pads and rear working lights for free and gave me the 12" bucket at cost.

It's so much bigger than anything I've used before, it'll take quite a bit of getting used to. Have been playing with the backhoe and the power of it is just amazing!

Here are a couple more photos. Anything in particular you'd like to see closer? Are you interested in hearing about experiences as I use it (don't know if people post that kind of stuff here)

Thanks

Thanks for the pics, that is awsome!!! I personally like hearing about stories from people about equipment and stuff like that! Also, is that chevy a 2500 or 2500HD? I love those trucks too!! I when i go to our friends house to help them with their horses i get to use their tractor and i love it! Once again congrats on your new machine!

Hi paulrandal,

.... Ditto on what "Lawn King" said. Always keep your bucket low. You may want to consider a tooth bar for the kind of work you will be doing. Baby it for the first 6 months, get to know it. Change ALL your fluids and filters within the first 50 hours. You may or may not have magnetic oil plugs, if you do check EACH one for metal filings and clean thoroughly. Get into the habit of checking the machine regularly for leaks, damage and especially the oil levels.

....Nice beautiful machine, it should last you a lifetime .

The L48 is a bad mother. I would love to have one. But current don't have the need. Personally I would get a L35. Anything bigger and I would want a JD 310 4x4. Play nice with it at first. Then you can let her rip after 50 hours.
