Does it start right back up when it quits ? Does it have spark after it quits ?
About how much time in minutes does it run before it quits ?
Post the model and type numbers off the recoil housing.

Had the same problem with my 3.5hp briggs. Let me guess is it a horizontal shaft? I ended up having to buy a new carb to the tune of 130.00. runs like a top now. If you can change it out to the newer briggs motor. Cost is under 200 for non gear reduct model and 295 for the 6:1 gear reduct model. I couldnt fit it in my aerator so had to spend the money on the new carb.
Also check the needle valve. sometimes a piece of carbon will clog it. Be very carefull with the needle if it is tightened to tight you will need a whole new one maybe even a whole new carb.
