I'm looking for recommendation on a reliable 48" walk behind for home use. I have about 1.5 ac of lawn and plan to mulch mostly, with some bagging in fall. My lot is level, but unfortunately it is bumpy (ain't no golfcourse).

This is just for my yard, I'm not a commercial guy.

However, I do value quality tools that last and want a nice cut. My current mower is a 48" Scotts rider which gives a poor cut, clumps/clogs, is loud, hard to turn, and feels like it will only last a couple seasons. My 21" Honda on the other hand runs great, nice cut, quite, etc but takes all day. I don't mind walking just not for 3-4 hours.

Seems people on this board lean toward Exmark. What about the Honda's, others? Thanks

Exmark walkbehind with sulky. This mower has high blade speed, and the best mulching on the market. You can't tell if it wasn't bagged. You can also by a bagger for it if you need one. I leave my mulching kit on my 36" year round.

I would also consider the kohlers. I haven't been to happy with kawis lately.

go for the exmark if you plan on mulching, exmark also offers a really good bag. probably about $2800 for the package.

I would go with an exmark. For home use only, you may want to consider buing a used one and save yourself some money. A decent used WB should last forever only cutting one lawn and good maintance. If you go with the used one, make sure it will accept the new mulching kits. Most will.

Thanks all! I have decided to go with an Exmark Metro HP 48". I had to go with new because I couldn't find any used ones in the area. Actually, local dealers/papers had very few used mowers of any type.

I added the mulching kit. Can't wait to see how well it does in our chronically damp northwest grass. If it's half as good as everyone says I'll be thrilled. I just traded-in a 20 HP Scott's tractor (Home Depot) that would clog and stall constantly.
