That is known as an Alligator Gar,I recieved a email on it and here are a couple facts on it.

We got the fish certified at 244.5 lbs, a pending Rayburn record! She was 8'2" and had a 44.75" girth.

Wow, that's big-un! Aren't they one of the species that people like to bowfish for? Congrats if that's your fish...

we have alligators gars here also.never seen one that big before.and ive seen and caught plenty.a good one here is over a 100lbs but that thing is a monster.we use our deep sea equipment to fish for them.dead mullet under a balloon for bait.or we bowfish using some cord tied to a few milkjugs.let em tire out dragging the milk jugs around.do the same thing for big stingrays.

cant believe he's holdin on to it in the boat.those things can live for days out of the water.i believe i read somewhere that they may even have primitive lungs.at the fishing rodeos here they stay alive even on ice for a long time.
great pics

Nice! I bet your heart was pumping!

I hate gars. They feed on the good sport fish. They have been known to drop the bass population by 50%.
