Scag Offer...What do you Scag users think it is worth?

I was approached by a friend today wanting to sell his Scag mower. It is a 48" Hydro that is approx. (4) years old. I do not know the engine size, but know it has about 100 hours on it. That's right, 100 hours! He bought it as a back-up for his 25 year-old Dixie Chopper, in case he needed it. His old DC keeps on chugging along, so he has decided to offer it up to me. He wants $2,000 for the mower, including the velke. This sounds like a great deal, even though I do not need another mower, right now.

Do any of you have any insight into these (4) year old units, as far as problems, concerns, or general opinions? How is the price?

That is a good deal as long as it is not rusted out and runs. The Scag will probably have a 17 Kawasaki on it unless it was replaced. New the Scag would cost about $5000 from my dealer.

I would say great deal. I would test drive it to make sure, but yeah if everything works I would definitely go for it, but it even if you don't need another mower. Plus you never know, you may pick up a few more yards and need another crew member and mower. Best of Luck!

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure of the deck "type", as I have not had a chance to see the mower. I'll take some pics and get some info. over the w/e.

As mentioned in other reply's, the engine is most likely a 17hp Kawi. For $2,000 and 100 hours that is a great deal. That's as long as the machine has been covered and doesn't have a lot of rust on it.

I think you will be extremely happy with it.
