Mine this year has been buying out another company so I don't have to advertise
But other than that it's been a classified ad.

My wife and I have been having a "discussion" bout advertising. She wants to skip a display add in the yellow pages, I would like a small one, I will pfobably let her win on this one. Last year we built a pond display in a local home and garden show, it cost $500, I picked up 9 jobs, 5 ponds and 4 landscape jobs. We are going to be in 2 shows this year. I dont know how a home and garden show would work for a maintenance business. We are expanding our business this year to include maintenance, so I guess we will see if we get any response of these show

A good marketing campaign is just that, a diverse campaign involving many different forms of getting your name out. You will waste your money if you sink it into one spot, just like stock market.
My biggest (and I'm sure most smaller LCO's) problem is MONEY. I have limited resources to be dumping into a potentially zero payoff ad. So over the last 5 years I have looked for ways to eek more from less. The biggest mistake you can make is to have a limited run ad. Think of it like buying groceries, why buy the little box of 10 for $5 when you can get the case of 50 for $15. Run your advertising for extended lengths, preferably the whole season, your rates will be at least 20% less for doing so. More importantly, your name will be recognized, and set you apart from others. NOW if you don't have the cash to run a big picture ad every week, run a 20 word ad (I'm talking about the free community paper not the newspaper) mine is costing me $7.20 per week for 26 weeks. Another long term low cost ad I did was in my towns new street map. It's good for 2 years and costs me less than $3 a week plus I got 25 free maps I hand out to my customers. Truck lettering and clothing is a must. The bolder and bigger on the truck the better. Fliers can be good but your better off just hitting a few key neighborhoods 3 times a year than pumping out 10,000 to the whole town.

After doing a lot of reaserch on yellow page design , I decided to hire a professional to do it all . Yellow pages , my post cards and flyers as well as my business cards will be done professionally designed . If you look into it , you will see the advantage , can't say enough on this . Last year , I went from a small box ad to a 2/3 page ad and it paid for it's selt in 3 months . Almost no calls on the small inline box ad http://www.greatyellowpageads.com/ |
