Bed Edger rental

I primarily do mowing, but may have an opportunity to do a large mulch job before mowing season begins. The job requires 28 cy yd (large for me because I work solo), and has 400-500 lineal feet of beds to be edged. Yes, I can do it by hand, but wanted to rent an edger.

A local hardware store rented bed edgers in the past, and I stopped today to insure it was still available. Well, it isn't! I was told they had so much trouble with it (all he cited was belts burning up), they have taken it out of service. I don't know manufacturer or model -- I just remember seeing it sitting there and putting it in my mind for future reference.

My question: Where do you suggest calling to learn if bed edgers are available for rent? I know one equipment rental place I intend to call tomorrow, but they seem to focus more on building contractor equipment (scaffold, concrete buggy, etc). For those who have rented, where did you find the equipment?

My needs are too infrequent to consider purchase.

The commercial lawn equipment dealers in our area all rent bed edgers. If they sell'em, they probably rent'em.

Thanks for the suggestions. I called the rental store I spoke about above, and they have just gotten a bed edger in, not even ready to rent, nor have they set a rental rate yet.

I was told it is a Sidewinder, 13hp Honda. I believe I saw one of these machines in an mower equipment store recently, nearly $5k. It was a large unit, with power driven wheels, lugged tires (similar to Snow-hogs used for snow blowers), and a 13hp Honda. Perhaps the new unit that just arrived is the same as I saw. Now, I wished I would have looked more closely at the one I saw a couple of weeks ago.

So, if I am correct about the manufacturer, size, etc, is this a good machine? How does it work? I think I saw a notched disk on the business end, and another claw-like device about 12" in diameter that maybe is a replacement. Is this a good machine to rent? How much might I expect to pay for a rental of a machine of this type?

Thanks.

that's really expensive.
it's less than half of that here.

a new one in only $2400.00 for the nice one. ( we just bought a new one a few weeks ago).

for that rental price i would definately buy one...

15 rentals and it is paid for.

Call your local Lesco dealer. Some of the stores are "test" marketing the Turfco bed edger. They might rent it to you.
