13 vs 15 how much does it matter

I located a Exmark PG 2005 36" with 13 kawi for 2200.00 new with warrenty.Seems like an ok deal, however I am wondering is this enough power.A 36" Scagg has 15 kawi for 2500.00 .How much of a difference will 2 hp make and is the extra 300 bucks worth in the end.Dave

i'd say definitely go with the larger horse power. you can never have enough but you can always have too little...

The Exmark will do just fine with the 13, even when pulling a sulky. How much more was the 2006 Exmark with the 15?

It is totally worth the extra money for 2 extra horsepower. $300 isn't a lot when you factor it over the life of the engine.

Like Lawnwizards said, you can have too little.

I've got 2 Exmarks, one with 12.5 and the other with a 15. There is a difference when mowing thick lawns, I can get away with one pass sometimes with the 15 where the 12.5 would require double cutting. Most of the year once the grass has slowed down it's not a huge deal. I'd probably pay the extra $300 for the bigger engine.

Then I'd get the 06 Exmark for $2500. I'm not a big fan of Scag.

The 13 and 15 hp KAI Kawasaki engine is the same block, same displacement. The only difference is the carb and that can easily be modified to be the same carb that comes on the 15.

Can the same thing be done with the 15 HP Kawasaki to go to 17 HP? Or are they 2 different engines?
