Eric - I'm happy to see this new forum here! Looking forward to sharing info with everyone - even though I earn a living in the welding field, there are aspects of it which I don't have experience with (for example: heliarc (or TIG) welding) so I look forward to learning from others here.
The bulk of the work I do is mobile arc ("stick") welding, most of the time I'm on a jobsite or customer's shop/property. I work for a fairly small company that does structural steel supply & erection, miscellaneous metals (stairs, railings etc) and repair welding. Throw in the odd bit of millwrighting work, custom fabricating & pipe welding and there's lot of variety - never a dull moment! Right now I've been busy for the past 5 weeks at one of the gravel pits near home, helping repair/rebuild/set up a portable limestone plant - the kind of heavy welding & fabricating I like best! As well, I "bring my work home with me" in the sense that if I need something and I can build it, I do. Torch cart, stand for bench grinder, engine stand, truck parts such as: plow mount, bumper, headache rack, stacks, & deck. BTW, other than an introductory course back in high school, it's been learn-by-doing for me, with the help of some people who were willing to show me the "right" way of doing things along the way.

I have been welding for many years, but it has been trial and error.
![]() I hope to learn a lot here myself. I still have a stick welder and a 110 meg welder. It can be a life saver whey you have a break down.

We got 100 posts on this forum in less than 2 weeks, so it looks like this will be a hit.
![]() I want to thank 75 and Alan for helping out with Moderating this forum. As of tonight, you are now the official Welding Forum Moderators. Again, thanks for the help. Eric
