Dual blades on MTD 42" mower

Theres two blades on my mower. There's a gap between them. How close can I get them so I don't get the "uncut" strip down the middle? Can anyone recommend a better "high lift" set of blades?

If you have an uncut strip in the middle after using that mower, you either have the wrong blades on there, or they are worn down or damaged. Check with the local MTD dealer or other lawnmower shop for the correct replacement. You can't adjust how close the blades get to each other, they go where they go. They are offset so that they don't touch each other while engaged, and so that they are overlapping to provide even coverage.
