Dethatching now?

I am coming up to my third week for mowing. Someone just called for a estimate on dethatching. I have never dethatched this late into mowing. I always dethatched when the grass was not growing yet. Can and should it be done.

Dethatching (like aerating) should only be done when the grass is actively growing. There is a great amount of stress put on the plant when you do either service...that is why you wait until the right time. You're in Wisconsin and on your 3rd week of mowing??? I would have thought the last of the snow just melted.
