2001 toro w/ kohler=problems?

I local JD dealer has a 2001 Toro Z-master 255 w/ 62" deck and a Kohler engine. The machine only has 376 hrs. on it. They took it in on trade. THe engine has a new head on it. When the check it out the engine wasn't up to power so when they dup in they ended up putting a new head on it. Im aware there was a couple of years that the Kohlers had some problems. Is 2001 during that time? He's asking $4k for it.

So how's it running now? Seems odd to put a head on an engine soley because it didn't have enough power. I think I would want a compression check on this one. And a long demo.
