48" Scag turf Tiger--22 Kaw poping and missing ?

ok, i have a 22HP Kawasaki on a 48" Scag Turf Tiger i love this mower !
it is poping and losing power. we put new plugs air filter and fuel filter .. the plugs had 200 hours on them and the airfiter was newer. we also but replaced anyway.

My great Dealer says a couple day to fix .... ? i don't have a couple of days we dont really have that kind of time.

Any idea of what it might be or what to check ?

or has anyone had similar experiences ?

Oh boy, here we go again. Another Kawasaki popping and missing. Start with checking for manifold vacuum leaks from the carburetor to the engine with spray carburetor cleaner. Next, check the coils by removing one spark plug wire while the engine is running and listen for a RPM drop. No drop = problem coil. Check the other side the same way. Use insulated pliers, wear gloves and don't lean on the mower with other parts of you body when removing plug wires.

Two simple checks to perform. Report back with your findings.

It's okay to buy parts without testing anything but you may be needlessly spending money. Diagnose first.

I'm not sure about the Amsoil product you mentioned. Spray carburetor cleaner is $3.00 - $4.00 a can at the auto parts store. If it were my mower I would be using carburetor cleaner.

Let me say it like this. You can put a honda engine on your scag if you have enough time, money, fabrication equipment, knowledge, experience, patience and determination. You and I don't know all the problems you may run into when re-powering with a different spec engine. I can list a few if you like but I would recommend you perform a few simple tests to determine the reason you existing engine is running poorly. The problem could be as simple as a bad ignition coil or an air leak which both are common problems and easily fixed.

A re-power job can be in the thousands of dollars and a coil could be around $50.00 for the part. It's your money and your choice. If the original engine needed to be replaced then I'd go with the exact same spec engine.
