JD used to put hour meters on their mowers, so check to see if it has one. This doesn't mean it wasn't replaced or unhooked, but it could have the correct hours on it.

Check to see if the spindle bearings have any slop in them and if they are greasable. Lift up and down on the end of a blade to check this. There should me no movement. A slight movement still can be OK if you keep the spindles lubed good, but no movement at all is best.

I usually pull a dipstick on used equipment to see what the oil looks like. If it's clean and on the full mark, at least it seems to have been taken care of.

It depends on how many hours are on this machine what the value is. See if you can find out the hours and let us know.

I had a friend who had one of those 525's and it dollared him
to death. He finally traded it off on an Exmark 48" Lazer HP.
I would stay away from this mower & buy a REAL commercial
duty mower. ED

Go buy the new Exmark and then you'll know how many hours the mower has on it. Make sure you get an hour meter installed on the Exmark.

DID a spring tune up onthe JD 525 complicated machine glad I didn't buy one. The Exmark 48 is OK try a 52 or the 60 Turf tracer with Exmark's steering sulky

If I remember right the f-525 has a engine/trans all in one,if anything happens to either the hydro unit or if the engine might need a rebuild/short block, the whole engine/trans unit has to be replaced boy that would cost some big $$$ I would buy a f-725 or f-735 diesel. On the price issue, I wouldn't pay more then $2000.00
