Mdvaden, I have already run up on a problem I cant solve. First so you know I bought a pre-made "Template" on line and am having trouble editing the header on the first page. Yesterday I spent four hours trying to figure it out with no success. I am working on a index.html page and clicked on the area where the header is supposed to be (it is invisible on this page, no text). When I click on that area a box appears with handles on it but no text, just blank. In the code view I have the following, <img src="images/title1_2.gif" alt="" style="margin-left:23px">, which doesn't show the text inside the brackets. The text is the part that says " Welcome to our landscape design site" on the attached immage.

I have been through every file in the site and cant find the text anywhere. I think I found the file in the immages file and when I click on it fireworks opens up with a box about the size of the text I want to change but the inside of the box looks like a checker board (no text).

Is this area a uneditable area?

It sounds like the text you're searching for is actually an image.

do a site wide source code search for the text with the MX search feature.
This text that you see on the site in a browser, can you right click and download it? if so it's an image. The coding you mentioned is code for pulling in an image.

Jeff, actually when I preview it in a browser the text is missing as well as the titles for each tab and the words Landscape design in the upper left

Hi Dave,

I'm using Dreamweaver MX 2004, and for me it's it's under the 'Edit' at the top. So under 'Edit' choose 'Find and Replace'.

I forgot to say, this is the code you said you're seeing.

<img src="images/title1_2.gif" alt="" style="margin-left:23px">

So just go into your images folder and look for the file called title1_2.gif and see what it is.

Jeff, thats just it when I locate that file and double click it, Fireworks opens up with a rectangle about the size of the text but instead of text appearing it has a checkerboard design in it.

mmm, it's hard for me to say without looking at the code. I'm sure this is simple. Do you have this site in development somewhere. PM me the development link and I would be happy to see.

If it's not in development online somewhere, PM the full source code of this file so that I can see what's going on. The file could be pulling in from your style sheet. Just hard to say without seeing the full code.

You are loosing me Jeff. I may sound like I know what is going on but really I am an idiot. I am learning as I go. I became tired of trying to manipulate that file so I removed it from the template (not the images folder) and made my own. I have run into several other issues I am researching right now. Everything is going to go a lot slower than I had hoped.

I'm unfamiliar with Fireworks.

Is that a photo / image program?

Do you have a "view" option of thumnails or acual size when you find the file location?

If I'm not mistaken, the path "images/" alone, may be a bit too generic for the program to track it in your computer. What if you have hewlettpackard/images/ or adobe/images/ ?

The way it looks now, it seems that it could go into a external website directory for the images/. To get the programs to go to a file on your computer, you may need the entire path to the file starting with like C:/programfiles/mydocuments/myphotos/images.gif (whatever) - but it needs the entire path to get there, if its to show up in a browser window or dreamweaver if its not on an external server.
