Blowing In the Wind
As I prepare to purchase a new blower for the upcoming season (most likely a Stihl) I have been told that blowing any excess clipping into the street is illegal - it has to do with stormwater drainage. Since then, I have been trying to blow the excess back into the grass, bit there is still remaining grass clipping that I still have to blow out into the street.
Have any of you guys heard of this? If so, how do you tackle this problem? Thanks for any help you can provide! Ken Klein Have Mower Will Travel 1996 Ford Aerostar Minivan 52" Hustler Mini-Z 21" Snapper Commercial WB Shindaiwa String Trimmer Sears Craftsman Blower |

As far as if it's illegal or not, I'm not sure, probably would depend on local ordanices, but I know it does clog up storm sewer inlets and pipes and can cause serious problems over time. (I work with Civil Engineers on a daily basis in my regular job). Plus I think it looks aweful. I don't think it would hurt as long as you don't leave the clippings there.

buy a walker or a navigator and you can suck up all the clippings.

8 years of cutting and have never had a run in with cops about grass. Here they are more worried about leaving enough room for other cars when your parked on the side of the road. They keep telling us 9 ft from center line to the trailer or we will get a ticket. ( I think I'm buying a ruler for the truck this year)
But back to your blower issue. Why blow grass in the street anyways? If your blasting a whole pass into the street then you should change your ways. It would be faster for you to mow throwing into the lawn on the second pass then double back with deck up some to make the lines match up. Some grass will almost always get in the street but you should limit how much goes there. And yes you should blow whatever is on the road back onto the lawn. If there is a lot then go over the area blowing clippings back down into the lawn. |
