How big are your koi? we only had string algae the second year. By the third year our koi devoured our string algae, they absolutely love it. Heck, after
they eat all the string algae they start on our moss rocks, they actually
rip off the moss like a bad toupe!
Hopefully it won't be a problem for you next year as well.

I'm with Victor on the aggressive water changes we add water every day,
using a gallon counter we estimate we exchange about 35-40% of the water each week.
Our fish are happy healthy and always very active.
