Push mower or Home depot Ztr?

I have a few lawns that I push mow the back of the house because my 52" ztr wont fit through the 4 foot gates, Ive been turning down new clients with gates because I dont want to push mow and dont want to buy a $4k+ commercial for just a few customers, I know everyone says non commercial machines suck but would it be ok for say 2 or 3 backyards per day? I could get a walk behind but prefer to just sit was planning on buying the toro 42" home depot crap as I have a toro 52" commercial

I also only do a few yards with a 22" machine... bought one from wal-farts...still runs great ....on the other hand you said 2 or 3 a day. If you are someone who maintains equipment well then I'd say you will get a couple yrs out of it (maybe more) also it depends on how you transport it...if its secure then it wont get damaged (which by the way is where most equipment gets tore up) and we all know how cheap those height adjustments are!..... Just my 2 cents.

you can get a nice used commercial 36" walk behind for $1200-$1500 or cheaper, the standard gate opening will fit a 36inch

I run a Scag 36" Zcat. I find that I use it on lots of 1/4 acre lots. I mean the entire thing as opposed to trying to use the bigger mower. AND on some it is even quicker and certainly less trimming after. Depends on your lot mix.

If it were only a few yards and the 52 works well on all the others, I would just get a 21 and suck it up and push them. The reality is that switching mowers takes more time than the actual cutting time difference between a 36" WB and a 21" push.

What I mean is, driving the 52" to the truck, unloading the second mower, then reloading the second mower and starting and loading the 52", that is where the time is lost.

Mowing 3000 sq ft with a 36" WB takes 7 minutes.
Mowing the same 3000 sq ft with a 21" self propel takes 10 minutes.

juggling between the two mowers takes 10+ minutes regardless of which one you end up using.

Just buy a used commercial midside walkbehind and get a sulky. You can get commercial mowers that are is great shape for $1500 - $2500 easily. A sulky will just pull you along without having to walk and push the mower.

My dealer wanted to sell me a 34" Gravely ZTR for just under 3k, it has 4hrs on it! That would fit through any gate and its commercial quality. In other words there are commercial mowers out there for under 4k.
