Old Fishing Rod & Reel >> Know about this (backpack??)

In my mother in law's yard sale today, I salvaged an old rod and reel which was in my father in law's tackle box.

I thought it was just reel; it was so short.

Total collapsed length, about 10"

Handles are covered with a shaped cork.

Reel is an open style w/ "Sport King"

The rod sections are metal, and look almost like copper. The little rings (?) are brass, I think.

Anyone ever seen or used one of these? Know the age, or if its of value?

Seems to function right.

Sport King? Was that an old Montgomery Ward Reel along with the Hawthorne Brand?
