blown motor

I have a 2001 3014 Dixon chain drive ZTR, I want to put a new motor on it and start cutting more grass, however my uncle feels that I will be wasting my money because of the drive train. He says that the cones in the drive train will wear out and I could have trouble and more expense replacing it.
He feels hydro is the way to go. I really dont want to commit to financing, but at the same time I dont want to throw money in a machine that may possible give out.

somebody make up my mind!!!

IMO, Wouldn't spend a dime on that chain drive unit. See if you can find a used REAL unit.
