Scag Maintenance

I have to things I need to do to my Scag. I am hoping it can wait till the off season but it my require attention sooner than that.

1. I need to change the wheel drive belts and pulleys. The belts are no problem, but I can't seem to get the pulleys off. I have removed the set screw. Is it a matter of just banging it off or am I missing something?

2. My trans is leaking a lot of grease. I have read many posts about this and my plan is to repack it with Bentonite grease. My only concern is opening the trans up. If I take the top half of the trans off, is anything going to come out(besides grease)? Also how do you remove the shifter which is above the trans?

Scag 36"
Peerless 700-070A trans.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
