26hp LC Kawasaki recall
PJ,
My dealer informed me while I was in for service on my 2005 Super Z that there could be a problem with my mowers gear box. He gave me the name of the area rep, I called him and he confirmed that Hustler would like to replace my 26 hp LC engine with the 25 hp Kawasaki air cooled engine due to some problem with the gear box. I purchased my Z last summer and I only have 60 hrs on the machine. This is an optional recall. Would you please explain to me the actual problem in more detail and why this subject has not been mentioned on this forum previously. I am a bit puzzled about all of this. |

I would like to hear about this also. In some other post in commercial mowing mentioned this but instead of the 26LC it was an 27LC ?????

First of all there are no recalls at all on 26hp Kawasaki liquid cooled units.
We have had some gearbox issues with the 27hp Kawasaki liquid cooled units. If there is a failure of the gearbox, your dealer has a option of installing a new air cooled engine kit, if this is not satisfactory we have the option of replacing your mower. These are handled on a one on one basis and the hours and condition of the machine play a role in this also. The 27hp liquid cooled Kawasaki (horizontal shaft) units used a gearbox, our vendor on the gearbox has had issues with quality, thus we are no longer using these gearboxes. The 26hp liquid cooled Kawasaki engine we use now is a vertical shaft engine, and uses no gearbox, and there are no problems with that unit what so ever.

Been there, done that..... My 27 hp liquid-cooled went through two gearboxes. My replacement, the 26 hp liquid-cooled with the vertical shaft, has been flawless for the first 300 hours.
And no, you can't tell a difference in that one hp loss. Now get Kawasaki to build the 29 hp liquid-cooled with DFI in a vertical shaft and I'll be first in line for a new 66" XR-7!! ![]() |
