Home made lift assist for tailgate.

Hey all! I like to weld & fabricate and I wish to build a lift assist for the tailgate on my trailer. Anyone build one themselves?? How did u do it and can u share pictures and/or plans for one.
Thanks

Wow, there is so many threads here with pics and plans for tailgate lifts it's insane. (search)

I still say that it's just easier to spend the $150 to $200 and just BUY a setup that's already enginered and polished up that all you have to do is some measuring and drilling.

I have built one of these systems before.
A garage door spring enclosed in a fence post which connects to braided line that travels through two 3in pulleys on the end of the rail then to the ramp itself.
This was my first time I ever welded and I successfully completed it. Also I am 17 so I think just about anyone can do it
