Kawi 23 hp FH680V

I am looking for the Valve adjustments settings, for my 1000 + hour 23 Kawi. They have never been touched.

.003"-.005" both intake and exhaust at TDC compression stroke.

The correct adjustment spec is .004"-.006". I just did a valve adjustment on an FH680 today. Make sure your at TDC of the compression stroke as Restorob said.

Periodic Maintenance Procedures

Valve Clearance Adjustment •Since valve repairs change the valve clearance, adjust
the valve clearance as specified. •Assemble the cylinder head and install the cylinder head
assembly on the block (see Cylinder Head Installation). •Turn the crankshaft in proper direction until the piston is at
the TDC of the compression stroke (as described above). •Loosen the lock screws [A] and the valve clearance adjusting
nuts [B]. •Insert a 0.10 mm (0.04 in.) thickness gauge [C] between
the rocker arm and valve stem. Tighten the adjusting
nut until the thickness gauge begins to bind between the
rocker arm and valve stem end. Sweep the thickness
gauge during this adjustment.

Valve Clearance (when cold)
Inlet, Exhaust: 0.10 ∼ 0.15 mm (0.004 ∼0.006 in.)

•Holding the adjusting nut with a spanner, tighten the lock
screw to the specified torque.
Torque - Valve Clearance Lock Screws: 6.9 N·m (0.70
kgf·m, 61 in·lb)
•Do not overtighten the valve clearance lock screws. •After the valve clearance adjustment, measure the valve
clearance again. Readjust the valve clearance if necessary.



I copied this from the kawasaki power dealer website. So what is the correct valve setting? I'm not saying you are wrong but this came direct from my dealer website.

The correct valve adjustment is .004"-.006". This came from a tech at Kawasaki. I also have the Kawasaki specification posters that are included with the technical update book every year. I have the spec charts from the last four years. They all say the adjustment is .004"-.006".

Without looking I would have to agree that the wall chart says 4-6. But the service manual that Rob posted is obviously different too...LOL

Hmmm.....Looks like Kawasaki doesn't know what they want the valves set at !

I looked at my up-date books also, But who goes to them for engine specs. ? I use the on-line manuals from my dealer's site, If they did change the spec. again wouldn't you think they would have posted another service bulletin ?

Also, Do you think .001" is enough to cause any problems ?

.004 to .005 hits both specs. That's what it says in my Volkswagon manual! LOL ! After 1000 hours any adjustment is welcome!

The spec was .003" - .005" originally then changed to .004" - .006" to help with easier starting in cold weather because DR Power uses this engine with a snow blower attachment. So, all of you are correct!
