Delivery Charges
I know I posted a similar thread before but I am looking for more input.
Do any of you charge for delivery? If so, What do you charge? Do you ever get complaints about delivery charges? Do you ever get screamed at for charging for delivery? Any funny delivery stories? Any picture or stories of delivery nightmares? |

if you are asking about delivery charges for landscape supplies YES how can you not. around me they go from 30-40 for single axle loads and 75-100 for triaxle trucks. figure it takes you a half hour to load 5yrds of mulch and deliverit so think about the guy driving thats $10 plus fuel $5 fuel in the machine to load $2 wear and tear on the truck and loader $5 insurance, tags $2

I always had a grin on my face when people were stupefied when they wanted 1-2 yards delivered and asked how much it would be! They never think of the cost of owning a truck(s) and heavy equipment let alone paying someone to do it.

Delivery Charges
Thats what I am taliking about the delivery of landscaping supplies.
Just an example: On tuesday morning I had a lady call to order 15 yard of premium black mulch to her house. It is about 12 miles from our yard. I charge by zip code for delivery in a single axle truck charge $55.00. So my driver calls out and I am stuck doing deliveries again. Anyway I get to her house and I go to the door, knock and she come out with her checkbook. She ask me how it could be so much and I give her the breakdown. $32.00 per yard for the mulch, $28.80tax and $55.00 delivery charge. She starts saying they guy she talked to on the phone told her it was free delivery( It was me on the phone) So I told her and she called me a liar. Anyway I told her the price and she said she was not pating the delivery so I said I was not dumping the load. So I took it back to my shop. Later that day I get a call from her asking me to bring the mulch back because she cant get anyone to bring it out on short notice and she needs it today! |

yes, we charge $20 for delivery, there havent been too many problems. best story is a delivery of loam to a guys house where the dump truck couldent fit into the back yard and the owner of the house offered our driver a ... from his wife if he would move it into the back yard for them. no lie that actually happened.

What age do you consider a kid?
And why should that matter anyway? One of the most successful businessmen I know started his business when he was 16. |

So what do you guys charge? Within 5 miles? 10 miles? Is the delivery price for mulch the same for plants?
