Welcome to the project John Deere 317 Thread

I was going to sell it on ebay but changed my mind
I had a friend work on it for me and it ran it for a while than the next day..
it wouldnt start it acted like the battire was dead but the battier was brand new I took the side covers off and look at the wiring and it was bad so it got to be the wiring or the starter.
Ive had small engines back in high but still all the info i can get would help

I know sorry for the smileys I was kinda taken my forestation out with them because this tractor was supposal gone though by a friend which did not do a good job. but that no reason to abuse the smileys

Not a bad mower, what motor is in it? Onan? What are you thinking it's worth? I don't get what you mean by what wire where or ???? The wiring on these is pretty easy sompared to newer models. Do you know anything about electrical? Have a test light?

yep it a Onan. the last owner said he put it in ten years ago
I think i'm going to have to find a repair manual for it
I get some more picture up soon of it up close when i get deeper into it

Well got all sides off I guess i got to pull the motor to get the starter off.
My friend that said i went though the tractor completely didn't even change the spark plugs which look old and Rusty. He said he think it might need a rebuild and I'm trying to debate a rebuild or just re-power. which one would you guys do. Back in high school it was briggs and stratton engines that i rebuilt both single and twins. I really would like to save this tractor. I'm going to paint it next which he said he did and the paint is peeling and yes i did pay him but i traded him old equipment.
