well back on topic. I'm looking at the honda engines repower kits that look nice or a briggs and stratton vanguard repower. I pretty sure Onan parts or getting harder to find and the rebuild does not look fun but would save money.

Onan parts are expensive and must be bought a JD usually. If you put anything other then a ONAN it won't be worth as much since it's not original. How do you go from a small wiring problem to a complete rebuild? Are you sure you or your friend have a clue what your doing? If not it could be an expensive mistake.

Because when it did ran it smoke and did run the greatest
My Friend didnt do crap I just firgured out. Lets say my friend is not my friend anymore because i paid him to fix it and he did not do anything and is now hard to get hold of wonder why? maybe because he rip me off.
but anyways I can handle it my self. need to get a parts list going and to the john deere dealer. I've got 1 out three engine mounting bolts off.
I've had small engines, basic engines , diesel engine and more at college.
I should think of a differnt job shouldnt I? I was going to go work at small engine dealer but my friend got the job before i could and he stayed for a few years and then quit and went to work at a golf course seviceing equipment. The small engine repair place all ready had somone in line for hire.
I guess thats why i went to lawn care because i kept trying to get a job as a mechanic. But I will keep on trying someday I'll get a better job.
Also have My Class A CDL and with Air Brakes. but I'm 20 in November I will be 21 and try to get a job truck driving. theres alot i could do just need to make up my mind.

Now,

While replacing the Onan may make the unit non-original it would make the unit usable.

IMO, A re-power engine would be cheaper than trying to rebuild because as mentioned Onan parts are sky high and going to a JD dealer to buy them adds even more $$$.

Your best bet would be to call SEW with your engine and unit numbers and see what they offer for re-powering.

In your opinion what engine would be the quietest. I know that a funny question coming form a 20 year old but this tractor may be used around horses not right next to them. You see during a horseback riding lesson which I was taking in a arena I zero turn was coming to mow around the arena and spooked the horse. When but the arena amplify the sound sort of . I was outside and pretty far a gut was mowing his house and the horse did not care. Because of this I do my best keep quite mufflers in good shape

There are many style mufflers on the market, It will depend upon what brand engine you choose as to what style muffler they offer.

Honda is known for one of the quietest sounding engines on the market, But again depends on the style muffler.
