Having problems with Red Max 2601 Trimmer

I have been through 3 spark plugs in 4 months.
I'm running valvoline 2-cycle @ 50 : 1 and NKG plug.
It get used for both trimming a few large ditches and embankments
with throttle locked and small yards reving up and down. One plug went
in 2 weeks. Its was a little black but I easily got it clean w/wire brush,
but plug was still shot. Do I need a hotter plug? Different oil?

thanks,
Bill

Change oils and check your spark arrestor screen too to see that the exhaust can exit without restriction.

If this persists, it probably needs taking in for carb work... running too rich.

I've never "fouled" a plug in mine.

I would change to either redmax brand oil or Stens. Funny thing I've found out about spark plugs, some work better in different engines. Try a Champion CJ 8. If those two things don't help, it could be the carb is running rich

i have the same trimmer and have had trouble fouling plugs. However, I found out that I was mixing my oil too rich (about 35:1). I was just refilling the small shindaiwa bottles, but I was filling too full. I replaced the plug and haven't had trouble since. I have noticed however that it gives more problems when not running unit at full throttle.

lol we run redmax stuff and have a 7001 blower that has used the same plug for 4 years.....

more than likely the oil mix.

also we have had no issues with champion plugs in our equipment. have not tried NGK

i used to race motocross, and in the 2 stroke bikes the NGK were the best... nippodenzo's would foul if you looked at them wrong. champions were marginal at best.
