300 hr combustion chamber cleaning, Kawasaki

My Kawasaki service manual recommends cleaning the combustion chamber and valve seats at 300 hours. For you high hour per year guys, do you have this clean performed or do you just keep running them?

Thanks!

instead of going through all that effort, I just add fuel system cleaner in the fuel periodically. that helps in keeping the carbon buildup to a minimum.
I've only been working on this stuff for about 7 years, but I haven't had to tear any apart for cleaning yet.

I have NEVER had one customer bring any unit/engine in for just that purpose, In fact not even the valve adjustments.

They all run them till they crap out then bring them in, I then do whatever it takes to fix them (with their OK of course).

Most do not even read owner's manuals just throw them in a drawer someplace.

I had it done on my first mower I bought at 300 hr's and the dealer was honest and said it didn't even need it. If you see a lot of carbon on your spark plug I would do it at like 600 hr's. never let the mower sit and idle.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm nearing the end of the season and thought that I might pull the heads this winter to do the cleaning. I'll bring a bore scope home from work and check the cylinder out. If it doesn't look bad I'll leave well enough alone.

Thanks again!

300hr's is just broken in, I wouldn't take anything apart. take the air cleaner off and drip coca-cola in while the engine is running, it will burn any carbon in there right off!

There was one LCO that I worked for that would do certain Kohler engines, the older model of the Command 18. But other then that, the only time I ever cracked a head was if there was something wrong.
