BRiggs has my vote

About the only thing I have found the older Tecumsehs good for were boat anchors and then only if they were cast irion and not cast aluminum.
I have ran a small engine repair shop for 20+ years and have worked as a golf course mechanic for the past 10 years.
The newer Briggs motors especially the three cylinder diesels are good but not great engines.
Basically you get what you pay for.
Why else would most equipment manufacturers allow you to spec out their equipment with several different engine options?
Also notice the engines proven to be more reliable are the ones with the larger price tags.
BTW I have several old cast iron Briggs engines that are closer to 50 than 20 years old and they just keep on ticking with very little upkeep.

the reason why i think B&S engines are great is because they have been around for a long time and they are reliable. those engines have been around for almost 100 years! i believe the first one was a 2 cycle, then they started making 4 cycles.
