2008 Fertilizer Prices - Major Increases

I've been told by my Lesco/John Deere rep who I have been doing business with for 17 years that my cost for the fertilizer products I use last year will be 64% higher. Have you been hearing the same. And can you suggest other suppliers. We are in Michigan. Thanks,

Yes, fertilizer prices are going up all over. For many reasons including the need for more corn. I hear if the US can start importing urea from Russia that will help with some of the fertilizer prices. 64% seems high. 20%-30% is what I've seen. It Should be an interesting year.

I raised prices at the end of the 2007 lawn care season effective for 2008. I was anticipating a fertilizer price increase of 10%-20% for 2008. So I'm not too far off. We will have to see what happens.

If you do a search on here you will see this has been a major topic for the last 3-4 months!

Fert prices may be going up a little due to ethanol...but it is mostly due to exports and petroleum!

You are correct that prices are up almost 60% from last winter...but they have only gone up about 30% since this fall.

If you havn't gotten your fert you may want to. The big talk now is SHORTAGE! There may not be enough to go around for 08!

Yes, it's gone up, but it's gone up at some suppliers more than others. Lesco gave me a price for my 2nd, 3rd and 4th fert app 25-5-11 50% that works out to $2.08/M, while another supplier, a reputable one that has been around for some time is at $1.42/M. That isn't the cheap stuff, It's Lebanon 20-8-8 50%. But, the Lesco guys insist that they are just passing along costs.

I'd suggest shopping around.

I agree. There's already 10 or so posts in this very forum that are dedicated to this topic.

fertilizer prices

I was at Home Depot Yesterday. They were selling Lesco fertilizer with crabgrass control (not sure of analysis) 50 pounds for 25.97. Covers 12,000 sqft. Not sure--probably last year's left over supply.

24-2-11 was 19.99, 50 pounds.

Weed killer (Ortho Home Depot product in black bottle) was 5.97 per quart.
