thatch question

3 years ago i started a new lawn I over fertilized to get fast growth to stop run off. Now of course i have a build up of thatch. I don't want to power rake all that thatch away. My mower will cut low enough to remove most of it. Will this kill or harm dormant centipede to be cut back this low to ground level? thanks Rick

don't "scalp" centipede as low as you would Bermuda. You can seriously damage the rootzone and end up with bare spots.
