I guess I can add my new Redmax EB7000 to my this year list. If it gets the hours my Stihl BR400 has with no trouble, I should be in good shape.

I guess I've upgraded about everything this year.

1994 Toro 580-D w/5000 hrs
1994 Toro 325-D 4WD w/1500hrs
New Stihl FS85 w/angle head hedge trimmer & pole pruner attachments
New Stihl BR400 backpack blower (love the light weight)
New Stihl 029 chainsaw
New Millcreek 60" core aerator (which I mounted to the front of the Toro 325-D with four wheel drive)
30 Gig Western Digital hard drive
Windows 2000 professional
CD burner

It cost me $10k for the 580, $7k for the 325-D 4wd, so all in all I've spent about the equivalent of a pick up truck. But that's OK, I've billed enough additional this year I'd have to say they've already paid for themselves. The 580 leaks like a sive though. It's in the shop right now for a rebuild of the pumps and one wheel motor. The estimate is for $5k. I'm OK with that, because when they're done it will be a first class machine.

I credit my success in no small part to Lawnsite. The information and advice I've gathered from here gave me the confidence to improve my business. I thank you all.

Our Son Doug who is 24, will be helping me next year. So when all those accounts go to a 5 day rotation in the spring I'll be able to keep up. I've been solo this summer.

If next year's as good as I anticipate, I may get an Isuzu NPR or a compact utility tractor or a pull behind top dresser.
Gawd...look at me, it never really stops for a true equipment junkie like me does it?

I'm what my son-in-law called me "equipment poor"

Dave

2001: Big new house with a 2 car garage, we are closing on Dec 14th -anyone want to help me move? LOL. We love our current house but with more chillens on the way we have to get a bigger home.
Faster Computer which will likely be outdated in 2 years
Incorporated my business to an S-corp.
Quickbooks Pro so my wife could simplify the invoicing and do employee payroll. (I only have one part time employee)
Murray 21"-no I'm not kidding; it is not that bad and since I trashed my $400 Lawnboy in 2 years I figured I'll trash a $150 mower this time. Plus it doesn't have that moronic offset wheel and a much easier bagger than the LB.
Kawasaki 25cc or 26cc Trimmer
Stihl handheld vac for leaves along parking lot curblines.
Built a small 8x8 shed to handle some of the overflow from my 10x30 storage unit-then my wife told me I couldn't put any of my big smelly equipment in there because she was going to put my daughters toys in there. And now we are moving and not taking the shed. You win some you lose some.

Next year: shed for the new house, and anything that I wear out I will replace. I hope my expensive stuff doesn't need replacing!
I also hope that I will continue in 2002 to purchase cheap gas! Saw it for 93 cents per gallon at an Exxon yesterday!!! Yee haw!!!

93 CENTS!!!
The last time I bought gas that cheap was in HS (88) for my 66 stang. I was filling it up with regular cause I didnt want to pay the outrageous price of a buck 5 for unleaded -LOL!!!

Amazing how things and times sure do change

Didn't buy quite as much this year as previous, but did improve a few areas:

1) Stihl BR420 Backpack Blower.
2) Stihl FS85 Trimmer (to complement my older one).
3) (2) Shindawa Backpack Sprayers.
4) Dedicated Rotary Blade Grinder.
5) New Hauling Package for my pickup.

Previous year I upgraded in many, many expensive areas: New computer, 36" Exmark TTH, 21" Toro Recycler, Stihl Stick Edger, 6.5x12' Trailer, yadda yadda yadda.

Next year I'd like to get an aerator, dethatcher, and overseeder and expand into those areas of the business. It's been a tough market to crack into around here as I can't find anyone who wants those services yet.

I'd also like to tear down and rebuild my garage/shop but that might wait until another year...

-TGC
